Materials needed for a simple butterfly craft

You don’t need construction paper or pipe cleaners when you use this free printable butterfly template! This beautiful butterfly craft comes with two different options - a butterfly coloring page craft and a color version. Both versions of the butterfly worksheet have space to practice tracing the word “butterfly” and a blank line for handwriting practice. We prefer to use Channie’s “My First Pencils” for handwriting practice. Their chunky size makes them easier for little hands to control.

How to make your butterfly craft template step-by-step directions

First, grab your free butterfly template worksheets by using the download link lower in the post.  Print as many copies as you’ll need of either the color version of the black and white. You only need one page for each child participating.  If you’re using the black and white version of this simple craft, color the butterfly before cutting it out. Completing the handwriting portion of the activity is also easiest before cutting out the butterfly pieces. Once your students are ready, have them use blunt-tipped scissors to cut out their paper butterflies. To assemble the butterfly, glue the wings to the back of the butterfly’s body. The wing pieces are curved so they match the curves of the body and head pieces. Glue the head to the top front of the body, so that it lines up with the butterfly wings as well as possible. Glue the antennae to the butterfly’s head. That’s it! Your butterfly craft is now ready to use.  Butterflies can be attached to a large craft stick to use as a stick puppet, placed on toilet paper rolls to make them stand up, displayed on your classroom bulletin board, or even turned into sun catchers in a window. How will you use your beautiful butterflies? Leave a comment and let me know!
