How to use printable coloring sheets for adults
Printing your own coloring pages is easy, plus saves you time and money. Instead of being stuck with whatever books are at your local store or waiting for the mail, you can print pages off and start coloring just a few minutes from now. You can also print and color your favorite pages again and again without having to purchase a whole new book. When you print your pages, please don’t use whatever cheap copy paper is the machine at work. For a more enjoyable, relaxing coloring experience, try printing your coloring pages on 32lb bright white paper. This paper is thick, bright, and smooth for rich colors and easier blending. Your marker or pencil will glide across the page when you use this paper! You’ll never want to color in a “normal” coloring book with cheap, rough paper again after you try this dreamy paper. If you have access to a laser printer, you can also print on watercolor paper or another art paper and paint your coloring pages or use your favorite mixed-media materials. Laser is also great for coloring with markers. Copiers are laser, as are printers called “laser jet.” Your coloring tools have a large influence on your coloring experience. There are lots of very inexpensive gel pen sets available. Unfortunately, many cheap gel pens don’t color, or write, very well. Purchasing a cheap set that doesn’t actually work is so frustrating. That’s why I wrote an entire post on the best gel pens for coloring. These two are my top picks: In the photo below, you can see a bit of gel pen coloring on a printable owl coloring page. Gel pens are super fun to color with, especially when you use them to add sparkly accents. My favorite budget coloring markers are Crayola Supertips. They’re a bargain and fun for both adults and children. They’re popular for hand lettering practice, too, because you can make brand strokes or thin lines with them. One thing to note is Crayola Supertips caps don’t always look exactly like the ink. This isn’t a unique problem - virtually every marker brand I’ve used doesn’t have a complete match between every cap color and actual color. The color also depends on the paper you’re using and how you personally color. I recommend swatching your markers out or testing them on a scrap sheet before coloring your page so you don’t have surprises. My favorite colored pencils are Prismacolors. Prismacolor colored pencils are soft and creamy, even their more budget lines. They color easily and are great for blending.
