How to use directed drawing worksheets with young children
Each of the pages in this worksheet pack breaks down a different cute drawing into easy steps. Each worksheet page also has a large square to draw the image in, space to trace the Christmas vocabulary word, and lines to free write the word. This set of directed drawing pages has 14 different images to draw. Each image has six steps to draw the picture. The first step is typically something simple, like a small circle or a curved line, that anyone can draw. The drawing tutorial adds on step by step to create a finished image your child or students will be proud of! These are all relatively simple pictures, but you can pick and choose to find images for different skill levels.
The bell, holly, sleigh, hat, gift, stocking, wreath, peppermint, ornament, and candy cane have both “face” and “no face” versions. The elf, Santa, reindeer, and gingerbread man only have six step versions with a face.
For example, the peppermint, candy cane, and stocking drawings are the easiest. The Christmas bells, sleigh, reindeer, and Santa hat are a bit trickier. The Santa Claus and elf images are probably the most difficult for most young students. There are several different ways to use these worksheets. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Use them as a no-prep fine motor and language arts activity Use them for early finishers Laminate the pages or slide them into dry erase pockets for use in classroom centers Leave them for your sub plans Have children cut out their finished Christmas drawings and turn them into Christmas ornaments to take home Display finished artwork on your classroom bulletin board Have kids color in their finished drawing and/or the drawing steps
