Are dab a dot coloring pages developmental?
Dab it pages are an easy, no-prep activity. But are they developmentally appropriate and helpful for your child’s development? Yes! Using dot markers can help your child in a number of ways. They can help your child develop:
hand-eye coordination grip strength finger strength manual dexterity
Providing you child with chances to practice their fine motor skills helps them develop the skills needed to (eventually) tie their own shoes, zip zippers, use buttons, and write. Like the best preschool and toddler activities, these no-prep dot marker pages are educational and fun. Children’s work is play. I’ve never met a child who didn’t love dot markers. (The photo below is my daughter enthusiastically coloring her spring do a dot pages.)
How to use dot marker printables
The circles on these pages are based on the size of these Classic Do a Dot Markers. The circles are perfectly sized for this brand of markers, but they also work fine with other dauber or bingo style markers. These are the exact markers we’ve been using for over a year at the time of writing. We use them a lot and they’re still working fine. To make the pages reusable have your child cover the circles with pompoms or big buttons. Nature treasures like shells and pebbles would work well, too. Your child can place the manipulative with tongs for even more finger strengthening fine motor fun. We use these wool felt balls: For an easy, no-mess activity, use these Earth Day dot printables printables with round coding label stickers. Stickers add even more fine motor practice. Removing stickers from the page is challenging, and placing them requires precision. This is a great activity for car trips, doctor’s appointments, and any time when you just don’t feel like having yet another shirt stained with marker. Make sure to get ⅝″ or ¾″ round stickers for these dot printables. There are also one inch round stickers. They are too big for the circles. We use these stickers. You get literally thousands of them for just a few dollars. It’s a great deal. You can see the stickers in action below in this photo of my daughter using an Easter do a dot printable:
