Dot marker painting pages are a fun and easy activity for Independence Day. They can be transformed into a completely mess free activity when you use round stickers instead of dauber markers. Use these pages to keep little hands out of the way while you’re grilling for the 4th or as part of a homeschool preschool lesson plan! I create free printable dot marker coloring pages all the time because my daughter loves them and will happily dot or sticker them for a very long time. Be sure to grab these free printable summer dab it marker pages while you’re here for even more summer fun! This free printable Fourth of July picture bingo is another great, low-prep activity for your family.
Benefits of coloring with dauber markers
Dot marker coloring pages are an easy, no-prep activity. They’ve become increasingly popular, too. (I recently saw a dot marker coloring book at the Target Dollar Spot!) But are they developmentally appropriate and beneficial for your child’s development? Yes, they are! Thank goodness. A toddler and preschool activity that’s fun, inexpensive, easy, and beneficial. Dot marker pages can help your child develop and strengthen their:
Hand-eye coordination Grip strength Finger strength Manual dexterity Creativity and artistic expression
Giving your child lots of opportunities to practice fine motor skills helps them prepare to tie, button, zip, lace, and snap their own clothing. It also prepares them for everyday activities like writing and brushing their own teeth (instead of just getting toothpaste all over the mirror…).
How to use dot marker coloring pages
These cute 4th of July dab it pages will delight your little learner with fun designs include cute 4th of July owls, eagles, Uncle Sam hats and more. The circles on these pages are based on the diameter of my daughter’s Classic Do a Dot Markers. The circles are slightly larger than the daubing portion of the marker to make it easier for your child to color the circle. The circles are sized for the Do a Dot brand of markers, but they also work with other dauber or bingo style markers. We’ve been using the same set of Classic Do a Dot markers for two years at the time of writing. They can be a little spotty when they’re first used for the day, but we pounce them a few times and the ink starts flowing again. Make sure to always store dab it markers on their sides, not upright. My daughter always wants to stand them up, but this drains the ink out of the sponge. You can make the pages reusable by having your child cover the circles with a manipulative. Pompoms, big buttons, nature treasures, and other small items all work. Math manipulatives like unifix cubes and counting bears work, too, they just don’t perfectly fill the circles. You can also use edible items like o-style cereal, fish crackers, etc. Plastic bingo chips work for reusable pages, too. Get .75" ones, like the ones shown below. Some plastic chips are much larger and others are surprisingly small, so make sure to check the size. Make sure your child is past putting things in their mouth, and doesn’t have a younger sibling around who could access them, before getting plastic counting chips. For an easy, no-mess activity on the go, use these dot it printables printables with round coding label stickers. This is a great activity for car trips, restaurants, and any time when you just don’t feel like scrubbing marker off little hands (and walls) again. Round stickers are available in several common sizes. Get ⅝″ or ¾″ round stickers, not 1" stickers. One inch round stickers are too big for these pages. We use these stickers. You get literally thousands of them for just a few dollars. Below you can see my daughter using the round stickers with an Easter do a dot printable:
