How to use cut & paste puzzle printables
Cut and paste puzzles can be surprisingly difficult for young children. Children usually start solving puzzles by look at the puzzle piece shape, not the picture. That strategy won’t work for this cut and paste puzzle because each piece is a square! The square pieces mean your child or students have to look at the picture on the piece and match the image up with the other pieces. That’s why one page has a hint image for children who are just learning how to solve puzzles. There are two versions of this cute New Year’s puzzle: one with a light background image in the solution area and one without a picture. Both have the same image of a winter deer holding a banner with the text “Happy New Year.” Children who have mastered simple puzzles with the reference image can move on to the plain white background version for an extra challenge. Older children can start with the hint-free version of the puzzle. This cut and paste puzzle can also be transformed into a file folder game or busy book page. We made this mermaid puzzle into a file folder game. Please visit that post for step by step instructions with photos. Let your child use a blunt-tipped pair of small scissors so s/he can practice their cutting. We own multiple pairs of these small Fiskars scissors. Young kids love gluing. My daughter enjoys using a small pot with a paintbrush and white glue for her gluing activities. For less mess, use a non-toxic glue stick. You can also use poster putty or even a piece of play dough.
