Your child or student needs to solve the math facts to discover what color each segment should be. This is a great way to practice addition, color word recognition, number recognition, and fine motor skills. These pages are designed with kindergarteners and first graders in mind. Second grade students and older kids probably will not enjoy them, unless they need extra practice. Please note that these are addition only pages - there are no subtraction problems. If you’d like to see subtraction color by number pages in the future, please leave a comment and let me know. Your child or students may want manipulatives or a number line printable to help with the addition problems. Make sure to grab these free printable 1-10 number lines to accompany your lesson. Look for the row of purple arrows pointing the way. These number addition worksheets can be used in a variety of different ways. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Use them as no-prep learning fun for your child at home

Use them as morning work

Place them in classroom math centers

Give them to students for independent work time

Use them for extra practice for kids who are still learning addition facts

Leave them in substitute lesson plans

It’s easy to make these free addition color by number pages reusable when you slide each sheet into a dry erase pocket. This is ideal for classroom centers. Coloring with dry erase markers is frustrating, but Stabilo Woody 3-in-1 pencils work amazing well on laminated and protected sheets. Check out this post with dinosaur coloring pages to see me use reusable coloring pages with the Woodies!

If you’re not making the pages reusable, they can be used with crayons, markers, or colored pencils. I prefer colored pencils and my daughter loves her crayons. My kindergartener breezed through her first 1-5 sheet but became a little frustrated with her first 6-10 sheet. To help her, we solved each addition sentence, then made a little dot next to the problem with the appropriate color. After she’d solved all of the problems, she returned to coloring. This strategy could help your little learner, too. Your child/students may also want to color in the tip of each crayon. This can be helpful if they’re still working on reading color words. Instead of leaving white spaces blank, we use a white pencil/crayon or a lightly off white/cream one. This makes it easier to tell when your child/ student has fully completed the image, not just left some blank accidentally or because s/he needs help.

Valentine’s Day color by number addition pages previews

This set of addition color-by-number worksheets features basic addition problems with addition facts up to 10. Becuase they are simple images without too many different colors, there are only four or five colors per page. This allows for a variety of addition problems for each number on the page. This makes the pages ideal for practicing basic math skills and developing your child’s number sense. This set includes six color by number sheets. Each page has four or five numbers with 1-5 on three pages, 6-10 on two pages, and 6-9 on one sheet.
