My daughter loves eating apples with peanut butter, but simple wedge shaped slices to dip in peanut butter can be a little boring feeling. These apple slices with peanut butter take a boring dessert or snack to the next level! These would make a great healthy treat option to bring to a classroom party if your school allows peanut butter. If peanut butter is a no-go, swap for almond butter or tiger nut butter to make these peanut butter free!

Apple slice donut ingredients

This recipe will make a lot of apple slice donuts! Scale up or down as needed.

4 apples 1 ⅓ cups peanut butter (sub almond butter or tiger nut butter) Suggested toppings: roasted coconut, blueberries, strawberries, white chocolate, dark chocolate, and naturally colored sprinkles.

Use honey almond butter for an extra treat! Making your own healthier chocolate drizzle is easy. Grab your favorite allergy friendly chocolate chips (I use Enjoy Life brand), put some in a microwave save bowl, and microwave for about 20 seconds. Stir and microwave in 10 second intervals until they’re melted. Use crisp apples for best results. I used Granny Smith and Honecrisp.

How to make apple slice donuts

Wash the apples. Slice the apple into ½ inch slices, discarding the top and bottom slice. This is easiest to do with a mandoline slicer, but it can be done by hand. I use this OXO slicer with a V blade. Remove the center of each apple with a small biscuit/cookie cutter or use a melon baller. Spread the peanut butter on each apple slice. Sprinkle your favorite toppings over the apples and drizzle with chocolate if desired. Blueberries, strawberry slices, and dried coconut flakes are delicious and wholesome! Sprinkles and other treats can be used to make the slices more dessert-like. I hope you and your family enjoy these delicious peanut butter covered apple slices! Notes: These are best served immediately. If you need to pre-slice the apples, use fresh lemon juice on the surface of the slices to prevent browning. Before decorating, pat them dry with a paper towel. Only fresh lemon juice will work, bottled will not. You can also use citric acid powder to prevent browning.
